THE PINEHURST
THE PINEHURST laminated wood shelter is ideal for parks, mature trails, and rest areas where small group settings are preferred or where space confinements rule, and protection from sun and rain is important.
The Pinehurst is sturdy and durable, and is offered with several added options: staining, steel columns, metal roof. Specifically sized for smaller group settings, the Pinehurst also blends well setting alone or with larger laminated wood shelters
The Pinehurst shelter is fabricated with #1 grade Southern Yellow Pine, and is also offered with options: metal roof, steel columns, staining, cupola.
The Pinehurst mini-shelter is easily adapted to the Mini Sign Shelter, an important component of every park, and recreational facility. Click on the Pinehurst photo gallery for a picture of the Mini Sign Shelter.
Photo GallerySHELTER SIZE
The size of the Pinehurst mini-picnic shelter is expressed by the depth and the length of the roof area. For example, the roof of a 8’ x 8’ Pinehurst shelter is 8’ wide and 8’ long excluding the thickness of the 2” nominal size fascia boards. Custom sizes are also available.
THE PINEHURST PACKAGE COMPONENTS
COLUMNS
Pressure treated, prior to gluing, laminated wood columns 11’ 9” long – to be embedded 2’ 9” in the concrete for stability. The lumber is treated prior to gluing which affords full penetration of the core of the columns.
Special nails (4” annular) to be “partially nailed” into the portion of the columns embedded in the concrete footings to provide improved anchorage against wind uplift.
BEAMS
Laminated wood beams that connect to the columns.
Steel connections and bolts that connect the beams to the columns.
BENCHES AND TABLETOP
Solid sawn Southern Yellow Pine, kiln dried, appearance grade, is used for the benches and the table top. Connecting hardware and nails for attaching the benches and the table top to the columns
ROOF DECK
2x6 (nominal sizes) #1 grade, Southern Yellow Pine wood decking, tongue and groove, furnished in specified lengths.
Galvanized nails to attach the deck to the beams
FASCIA BOARDS
Pressure treated, 2x6, #1 grade Southern Yellow Pine, fascia board to be attached at the eaves. Galvanized nails to attach the fascia to the beam ends and the deck.
FELT & SHINGLES
One layer of #30 roofing felt to be applied on top of the wood deck.
25 yr. 3-Tab fiberglass shingles, standard color Autumn Brown, other color options available upon request.
ROOF PITCH
The standard roof pitch for the Pinehurst is a 4/12 pitch.
DESIGN LOADS
- 12 pounds per square foot dead load
- 30 pounds per square foot live load
- 20 pounds per square foot wind load. (Equates to 100 MPH)
The typical design load allows for:
There are variables that affect the design sizes of the members, specifically the columns and the curved beams, and those variables generally include live load conditions that are usually location specific. Building Codes normally dictate the applicable loads to be applied in the member size designs.
PRESSURE PRESERVATIVE TREATMENT
As noted in the component list above, the wood columns are fabricated with lumber pressure treated (prior to gluing) with CCA, at .6 pcf [6 tenths of a pound of preservative per cubic foot of wood] retention for “ground contact”).
All treatment AITC 109. The treated Glulan can be stained or painted.
